What is ATAP?

Founded in 1992, the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (ATAP) is a nonprofit professional organization dedicated to advancing the field of behavioral threat assessment and threat management. Its membership includes law enforcement professionals, prosecutors, mental health practitioners, corporate security specialists, human resources professionals, school personnel, probation and parole officers, and other practitioners involved in assessing, managing, and mitigating threats of violence.

ATAP provides a collaborative professional and educational forum where members can exchange knowledge, best practices, and effective strategies for addressing issues such as stalking, targeted violence, workplace violence, school violence, and other behaviors of concern. The organization’s mission is to equip professionals with access to a multidisciplinary network of expertise, resources, and support necessary to effectively identify, assess, and respond to potential threats.

Through comprehensive training programs, seminars, conferences, and professional networking opportunities, ATAP promotes evidence-based practices and multidisciplinary collaboration. By fostering professional development and information sharing, ATAP helps its members enhance their capabilities, improve threat management outcomes, and strengthen the safety and security of organizations, schools, and communities.
